It involved more than 2,100 truckloads carrying some 21,200 cubic yards of concrete to form the foundation of a 73-story tower that will become the tallest structure west of the Mississippi. Yang Ho Cho, Chairman & CEO of Korean Air; Chris Martin, Chairman & CEO of AC Martin Partners; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti; California State Assembly Speaker John Perez; and California State Senator Kevin de Leon were among the dignitaries on hand for the historic occasion. The New Wilshire Grand will stand 1,100 feet when it is completed in 2016. The $1-billion project will include a 900-room hotel room along with restaurants, retail and office space at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles. AC Martin’s rich history with Southern California features several landmark buildings, including the design of Los Angeles City Hall in 1928.
