World’s Largest Continuous Concrete Pour

On Saturday, February 15, 2014, those in charge of the Wilshire Grand project in downtown Los Angeles started what would become the world’s largest continuous concrete pour. It involved more than 2,100 truckloads carrying some 21,200 cubic yards of concrete to form the foundation of a 73-story tower that will become the tallest structure west of the Mississippi. Yang Ho Cho, Chairman & CEO of Korean Air; Chris Martin, Chairman & CEO of AC Martin Partners; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti; California State Assembly Speaker John Perez; and California State Senator Kevin de Leon were among the dignitaries on hand for the historic occasion. The New Wilshire Grand will stand 1,100 feet when it is completed in 2016. The $1-billion project will include a 900-room hotel room along with restaurants, retail and office space at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles.

The Wilshire Grand Center, an upscale world-class hotel in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, is set to open its doors to the public in 2017. The hotel’s unique and open design has a modern aesthetic that will set the tone for architecture in the City of Angels.

This highly-anticipated project will infuse $1 billion into the Los Angeles economy, create critically needed jobs and sustain the city’s booming travel and tourism industry into the future.

Design renderings of the new Wilshire Grand have been attentively created by renowned architect design firm AC Martin. AC Martin’s rich history with Southern California features several landmark buildings, including the design of Los Angeles City Hall in 1928.

Bringing a new level of luxury to the international destination of Los Angeles, the Wilshire Grand will soar 73 stories high into the sky. Topped with a curved roof that breaks the traditional flat roof style of most Downtown skyscrapers, the Wilshire Grand will exceed the expectations of locals and visitors alike.
